Too Great a Hurry Habakkuk 2:3 says, For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry. We have to be convinced that God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above what we can ask or think. Otherwise, we won't wait for Him to do what only He can do. My friend Randy Peck from Culpeper, Virginia has constantly reminded me that all of us are in too great a hurry. He has urged me to invest more time in my quiet time with the Lord, rather than increasing the length of my work day. Randy has influenced me a great deal. I remember how when I first started in the ministry, I didn't have much to do so I spent considerable time with the Lord. Now, here I am fifteen years later helping 30 groups of leaders to bring transformation to their cities, and I am working harder and faster than ever before to handle all of the details. During my quiet time with the Lord the week before I wrote this message, I was led to Proverbs 11:28 (TLB), Trust in your money and down you go! Trust in God and flourish as a tree! The essence of this Scripture is that if I trust in my own resources I will not succeed. However, if I trust in the Lord I will experience success. |
